ELL113 : The Structure of English

General Information

This module provides an introduction to basic sentence structures and related linguistic terminologies, focussing on the morphological and syntactic structure of contemporary English. It runs in parallel with its 10-credit sister module ELL112 Sounds of English, and is designed to provide a firm grounding in the description of English sentence structure(s), and to equip students with basic skills to identifying and analysing English sentence structures. The module may also offer a brief introduction to English semantics, serving as an essential basis for more advanced linguistic study.


One one-hour lecture and one seminar per week.
