ELL365 : Digital Language and Literature

General Information

This module focuses on very recent developments in language and literature, exploring the impact that technology is having upon the written word. We shall cover a selection of major topics during the module, then examine the interrelations that exist between them, asking some ‘big picture’ questions about the nature of digital cultures. Examples of the topics that may be covered include: ‘Online Environments as a Context for Critical Discussion’, ‘Social Media and Language Change’, and ‘Digital Literature’.

Teaching

One lecture per week to introduce and explain topics,
One seminar per week to explore the relevant topics in detail and practise appropriate analytical techniques

Assessment

Coursework totalling 4000 words (or equivalent in terms of project work or presentations)
