This third-level undergraduate module is an introduction to issues in English historical linguistics with a focus on historical sociolinguistics. We will examine key processes of language change. You will be introduced to the evaluation of material as evidence, and you will encounter hot topics in language change through exposure to current research.
Lectures and practical work sessions, plus individual consultation sessions for the research essay with the convenor. Note that you will receive credit for active participation and evidence of thorough preparation for practicals.
