There are two pieces of written assessment. In the first (40%) you will evaluate the effect of historical and cultural conditions on women’s self-writing, through detailed analysis of one or two texts from the same or different periods. In the second, (50%) you will evaluate theories of self-writing. You may, if you wish, produce a piece of autobiographical or biographical writing and explore the theoretical issues raised by the process and/or the content of that writing.
Evaluation of Seminar Performance (10%) takes place informally week-by-week and relates to ways in which you structure ideas and sustain discussion, presenting ideas and working with others in the seminar group.
