EGH305 : Collaborative Teaching and Learning
Professor Susan Fitzmaurice
Please note: This module may or may not run in any individual session. Please check with the course Convenor.
This module gives students the opportunity to work directly with module convenors and workshop instructors in acquiring coaching and tutoring skills. It provides an opportunity for students to mentor level 1 students enrolled in a core module to develop collaborative and inquiry-based learning skills, namely ELL 110 (Varieties of English).
Students receive appropriate technical support and training in workshops and training sessions with the module convenor. Students are encouraged to reflect on and plan how to transfer the knowledge used in their mentoring activities to their own learning practices and research skills in their degree programme. By the end of the module, students will have produced a reflective journal recording their experiences of learning and teaching throughout the semester.
This module will be assessed through
- a reflective journal recording the experience of mentoring and coaching level 1 students on the one hand, and recording the development of teaching and instruction strategies on the other;
- a portfolio of four lesson-plans, developed for use in small mentoring groups in the second half of the module.
