Special subject - Theolinguistics

This module examines the ways in which people talk to and about God. Among the topics that will be covered are the nature of religious language, religious genre, the significance of metaphor, and the use of religious language in every day talk. A significant portion of the module will focus on critical theolinguistics, which is the exploration of how religious language is misused for ideological purposes.

Teaching

Teaching will be by lecture (one per week) and practical workshop (one per week).

Assessment

Assessment methods for the course will be two data analysis exercises (20% each) and one final essay/project (2,500 words, 60%), which develops of analyses of one of the contexts further.
